Blue Scholars - "Second Chapter"

Some of you may wonder why this site and its humble writer have been missing in action for the past couple months. For those who don't know, I have this affliction where, as a college graduate, I have little-to-no dinero. As such, there were problems with google's automatic renewal process and I've been fighting to regain my domain name for the past month. It's my fault, and I apologize to those who follow the site, but I'm back now so you can expect daily posts on new music, overlooked classics, and a forthcoming volume of That's That Mixtape (permit me a couple days to re-up some dead links). Hit the jump for this Blue Scholars classic.

The Blue Scholars' sophomore LP begins with this short, serene, beautiful track. Backed by the flute, chimes, and occasional soaring vocals of Sabzi's instrumental, Geo proceeds give a brief overview of the duo's history before promising "a handful of tracks/ each a snapshot to capture your trials/ your tribulations and smiles, seems you've been waiting a while/ We graduated in style, congratulations/ People of the Word gather, thank you all for your patience."

"Second Chapter" represents a transition in the Scholars sound, particularly an evolution of Sabzi's instrumentals and seemed like a fitting reintroduction to the blog. All said and done, the song clocks in at under two minutes, and provides the perfect intro to this classic offering out of the Upper Left.

Peace, Love, & Hip Hop,
Noah
