Freddie Gibbs – midwestgangstaboxframecadillacmuzik [No DJ]

I finally came across the No DJ version of Gangsta Gibbs' classic midwestgangstaboxframecadillacmuzik that was one of my favorite mixtapes last year.  Sans-DJ Skee tags, the project essentially becomes a classic gangster rap album and is a must download for fans of the subgenre.

Gibbs isn't gangster rap in the mold of 50 Cent or Game that emerged over the course of the past decade--rappers that idolize materialistic qualities.  The Gary, Indiana native spits in the tradition that harkens back to Ice Cube and NWA, gangster rappers who used their rhymes to convey socioeconomic problems in their community.

The member of XXL's latest freshman class has been killing just about every beat he's crossed paths with over the past year.  "Crushin' Feelins" will end up being one of the best songs of the year and, based on the material released thus far, Str8 Killa No Filla should be right up there with any other 2010 mixtape.

Peace, Love, & Gangsta Rap,
WordIsBorn
