Gerald Walker - "Appreciation (Thank You)"

2009 was a big year for Gerald Walker.  The year saw the release of Gerald Walker's Evening Out With Your Girlfriend as well as a collaboration with Gym Class Heroes and one of my favorite songs of the year in the form of "Reality Is an Illusion that Occurs Due to the Lack of Alcohol."  I'll admit that the first thing that drew me in about the Chicago emcee was his lengthy and ridiculous titles, but Walker has grown to be one of the most comical rappers in the game today and earned a place as one of my favorite up and comers.  Before the year came to a close, Walker gave his thanks to all of those who made his 2009 truly magnificent.

Gerald Walker & Slot-A - "Its All Fun And Games Until We Take Your Girlfriend And Your Manhood's Compromised"

It's been a while since we checked in with Chicago rapper Gerald Walker.  We last saw him dropping Gerald Walker's Evening Out With Your Girlfriend, one of the better mixtapes of the year, which blended punk rock with hip hop sensibilities.  As with other GW songs, this one continues a trend of ridiculous titles.  On this one, he hooks up with Chicago producer/emcee Slot-A for a track that sounds surprisingly different soundwise that what I'm used to from Walker.  It still has all the witty lines that have made him one of the most humorous emcees in my book, but something about the intrumental isn't quite vibing with me, at least in the same way that songs like "Reality is an Illusion that Occurs Due to the Lack of Alcohol" did.  Tell me what you think.

Gerald Walker's Evening Out With Your Girlfriend

UPDATE: I've attatched the illroots.com bonus version, which includes the same mixtape and three bonus GW tracks.

I've been hyping this illroots/2dopeboyz mixtape/album for past month now and it's good to hear it live up to expectations.  The Milwaukee emcee is on of the most ridiculously funny lyricists I've ever heard is the owner of a voice and delivery that is distinctly Gerald Walker (despite some misinformed interweb-heads who compared him to Drake solely because of his last song...see the discussion board here).  This mixtape continues GW's trend of lengthy, hilarious titles and even more ridiculous lyrics with punk rock influences (I've attached his remix of the song "Roxanne" with the Knux as a bonus).  Guests range from Add-2 to Matt & Kim to The Arctic Monkeys.  All of the songs are good, but I'll single out the Add-2 assisted "Your Mother Made Me Change The Name of this Song So Your Father Wouldn't Realize Who It's About" and "Half of Life is Getting Fucked Up, The Other Half is Dealing With It" as the highlights of the nine track album.  Enjoy.

Don't Tell me what you ain't gonna do,
Cuz dem jeans look better when they ain't on you.

Tracklist:

Gerald Walker's Evening Out With Your Girlfriend (Bonus Version)
[BONUS] Gerald Walker - "Roxanne (Remix)" feat. The Knux

Gerald Walker - "Your Mother Made Me Change The Name of This Song So Your Father Wouldn't Realize Who It's About" f. Add-2

Last leak off of Gerald Walker's Evening Out With Your Girlfriend before it drops tomorrow.  Continues in the long line of long/ridiculous(ly amazing) song titles, but GW takes the tempo down, while maintaining his goofy lyrical style (he's quickly shooting up my list of funniest MCs).  Tommorow's going to be an amazing day for hip hop, between this, Mick Boogie's The Re-Living Thing, Hov's The Blueprint 3, and Raekwon's OB4CLII.  I'll make sure to keep you posted.

Gerald Walker - "Ready To Go" x "To Bob Ross With Love" feat. Gym Class Heroes

Before I call it a night as far a blogging is concerned.  I just received this new Gerald Walker song that I thought all of you would appreciate.  Definitely some more high quality from the Wisco artist who is quickly becoming one of my favorite up and coming artists in the game.  The Atmosphere line cracks me up.  Gerald Walker's Evening Out With Your Girlfriend drops September 8th (fo' free!!!).  Mark your calenders.  UPDATE: added the Gym Class assisted-track to post as a bonus, it's from a while ago, but it's still good.

I'm livin' by the words that Atmosphere told,
Now When Life Hands You Lemons, Go And Paint That Shit Goooold!

Gerald Walker - "Reality is An Illusion That Occurs Due to the Lack of Alcohol"

Typically I'll download a song based on the reputation of the artist, featured emcees, or producer.  Never before have I downloaded a song solely based on the title.  But when this song from the Wisconsin emcee popped up on 2dopeboyz.com a couple days ago I had to check it out.  To my pleasant surprise, the song, off of his upcoming mixtape Gerald Walker's Evening Out With Your Girlfriend (dropping September 8th), is straight fire.  To give you a preview, here's one of the lines he drops near the end of the track:

Sorry, I don't need your help,
Cuz I'm high off trees like a Keebler Elf.
I tried to go to rehab, but I lit a ganga,
And went back to getting smacked,
You can call me Rihanna.
