Thatsthatish, Back in Business like Erick Sermon:
It's been quite some time since I last posted and for that I sincerely apologize. It's been a tough couple months and I have to focus my efforts elsewhere academically and athletically and unfortunately that's led the site to fall back on my priorities. The fact that my MacBook, which holds all my music/photo library, has been on the fritz has done little to aid my ability to get back in touch with blogging. For this I apologize and promise to get back to posting more frequently this summer as my academic schedule allows. But enough excuses, lets get back to the music.
For those who haven't been paying attention, Compton rapper Kendrick Lamar has not so quietly been climbing to the top of rap over the past couple years. Lamar first came to my attention with his 2009 self-titled EP and I threw his One-2 collab "Without You" on one of my first tapes, but he caught the attention of the entire rap world with the release of his critically-acclaimed 2010 mixtape O(verly) D(edicated). OD cemented Lamar's place among the rising stars of rap and earned him the respect of his peers. J. Cole called it his favorite album of the year and has since started collaborating with Lamar on a highly anticipated mixtape. If "Hiiipower," the first single off Lamar's major debut album, #Section80, is any indication of the rest of the duo's collaborative efforts, that tape looks to be killer.
The visuals are amazing in and of themselves, but Lamar delivers Nas-esque lyrics and flow coupled with a haunting J-Dot instrumental that come together to make this the best music video I've seen in some time. You can download the song off iTunes and keep your ears out for #Section80, set to be released in the near future.
Peace, Love, & Hip Hop,
