Lupe Fiasco - "Words I Never Said" (feat. Skylar Grey)

Loving the latest single off of L.A.S.E.R.S.  As always, Lupe kills it, but Skylar Grey (formerly known as Holly Brook) really steals the show with her voice.  Few know it, but Grey was originally supposed to be featured on Eminem's "Love The Way You Lie," before being replaced by Rihanna.

But anyway, Lupe's third album is finally set to drop on March 4th.  From the looks of it, the release may very well be monumental.

Update: ...And it's gone.  For those of you who missed out on it, I'm sure you can find it elsewhere on the interwebz.  Otherwise, you can cop it on the February 8th official release date.

Lupe Fiasco - "The Show Goes On" x "Be Somebody" (w/Fort Minor, Tak & Holly Brook)

Funny how whenever I want to procrastinate, I seem to always post Lupe.  Anyway, "The Show Goes On" is the first official single off of L.A.S.E.R.S. (apparently, "I'm Beaming" doesn't count/didn't make the final cut).  New Lupe is always welcome, but it's especially hard to argue with the Kane Beats instrumental, which samples and interpolates Modest Mouse's hit "Float On" (off 2004's Good News For People Who Love Bad News).  It's about time that Atlantic is putting out this album.  Word is that it will be pushed back until March 8, 2011 (as opposed to December) and evidently Lupe has been done with it since at least last summer.

I know I'm a couple days late on posting this song, which is why I'm throwing in a bonus (you knew I wasn't going to leave you out to dry).  In addition to the explicit version of "The Show Goes On" (which was harder to find than you'd think), I've included this hidden gem off the special edition of Fort Minor's 2005 album, The Rising Tide.  Gotta love that crisp Mike Shinoda production.

B.o.B - "Fame" X "Past My Shades" (feat. Lupe Fiasco)

This is the track I've been waiting on.  B.o.B links up with Lupe Fiasco for this cut off of The Adventures of Bobby Ray (dropping next Tuesday).  It doesn't top some of the previous tracks that have been leaked off of the album, but it certainly is a welcome addition (evidently the album version will sound slightly different).  The one song left that everyone wants to hear is the Eminem-assisted "Airplanes 2."  The ATLien's debut looks to be one of the best releases this year.  Props to NahRight.

Lupe Fiasco - "Hustlaz Song"

The proper retail version of Lupe Fiasco's Food & Liquor may have been the best debut album of the past decade, but there was a point when the album was even more refined than the final product.  In April of 2006, the entire album was leaked, causing the leaked version to be shelved by Atlantic.  Though several of the songs ended up being on the final album in one way or another (some with different verses/guest artists), most of the songs haven't seen the light of day for the lay listener.  I'm not going to post the entire leaked version album as I'm not a big fan of cease and desist orders, but you can definitely find it on the interwebz and I highly recommend the download.  This track is easily one of my favorite Lu tracks I've ever heard.

Lupe Fiasco - "Daydreamin'" (Feat. Jill Scott)

Short post tonight as this counts as my study break.  It's that time of year where it's starting to hit the temperature is starting to peak into the 80s and students (such as this writer) would much rather spend it relaxing on the Steps than inside studying for developmental psych, so I figured I'd take it back to this gem off of Lupe Fiasco's 2006 debut, Food & Liquor, that is a perfect springtime song.

Child Rebel Soldier - "Us Placers"

This comes as a hella late pass, but I was listening to this song for the first time in a while and wanted to give it some shine.  The song dates back to 2007 and, to date, is one of two tracks that the supergroup Child Rebel Soldier has collaborated on and released to the public.  The trio, consisting of Lupe, Kanye, and Pharell, has been rumored to have an album in the works for a couple years now, but nothing has really come to light.  Personally, I'll believe it when I see it.  There's no doubt that if the project ever comes together it will be of the highest quality.  Pharell and West are two of the best producers in hip hop at the moment, Lupe is one of the genre's premier wordsmiths, and Pharell is one of the better hook-writers (think nearly every Clipse hook ever).  This song, which samples the title track off of Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke's debut solo album, The Eraser, and is our best guess as to the sonic direction of any future CRS project.  The song has been in heavy rotation on my iPod over the years and generally discusses the price of fame (something all three superstars are all to familiar with).  Enjoy.

Lupe Fiasco - "I'm Beaming" (prod. The Neptunes)

There was a lot of controversy on the interwebz back on Xmas Eve when someone not from Lupe's camp leaked the incomplete version of this song.  Now here's the official, complete version from Wasalu with another verse and a slightly different instrumental (I've included both versions for those of you who are interested).  We Are Lasers is shaping up to be an early contender for album of the year.  Props to Shake on the drop.

Lupe Fiasco - "Blackout"

Props to Team Supreme for dropping this bonus track off of the Japanese version of Lupe's The Cool (well, at least the version with Trey Songz).  There's not that much difference between either version, but w/e.  It's free Lupe.  For those of you who haven't checked out the Enemy of the State mixtape, I highly recommend it.

Rest in peace to rap?
No, rest in peace to wackness.

Sorry for the drop off in posts.  I've been out of town over Thanksgiving break and have been without consistent internet access.  The next couple of posts should catch you up with what I've missed in my absence.

I've been craving some new Lupe for a while now.  He hasn't really dropped anything since his 2007 album The Cool, so when he dropped this tape Thanksgiving day he gave me something to be more than thankful for.  Lupe continues his rise through the hip hop ranks, rapping circles around other emcees' on their beats.  My personal favorite has to be his rendition of Weezy's "Fireman."  Hit the jump for tracklist/download as well as the bonus "Fire" track that I've thrown in (gotta love when one of my favorite emcees rhymes over my favorite band of all time).  Lupe's set to drop another mixtape on Christmas Day and Lasers is due early next year.

Peace, Love, & Lupe,
Noah
